Pursuant to the relevant Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, an event titled “Mirza Gadim Iravani: His Era, Environment, and Creative Legacy” was held to mark the 200th anniversary of the renowned Azerbaijani easel painter and founder of national panel painting, Mirza Gadim Iravani. The event was organized jointly by the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan and the Public Association “For Citizens’ Social Welfare.”
Speakers at the event included Nardana Yusifova, Head of the Museum’s Visual Materials Fund (PhD, Associate Professor); Farhad Jabbarov, Deputy Director for Research (Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor); Jabi Bahramov, PhD in History, Associate Professor and Head of the Western Azerbaijan History Department at the Institute of History and Ethnology of ANAS; Nazim Mustafayev, State Prize laureate and PhD in History; Irada Rizazade, Chair of the Public Association “For Citizens’ Social Welfare”; Leyli Karimova, lecturer at the Baku Choreography Academy and a descendant of Mirza Gadim Iravani; Ali Ismayil Aliyev, Senior Lecturer at the Design School of UNEC and member of the Artists’ Union; Dilgusha Mirzayeva, PhD in Technical Sciences and a descendant of Panah Khan’s lineage; and Eldar Adigozalov, President of the Azerbaijan–Kazakhstan Public Association, member of the Union of Journalists, and professor.
The speakers highlighted Mirza Gadim Iravani’s significant role in the formation of Azerbaijani painting, emphasized the importance of preserving and passing this heritage on to future generations, and shared a number of interesting facts about the artist’s life and work.
At the end of the event, students from the Baku Art Gymnasium and Secondary School No. 108 presented drawings inspired by Mirza Gadim Iravani’s works. The program also featured a photo exhibition, including paintings by Mirza Gadim Iravani from the association’s collection, as well as photographs of artworks engraved on the walls of the Irevan Khan’s Palace.
