Nadima Rahimli is participating in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3) as a representative of Azerbaijan’s civil society. On August 4–8, the conference is being held in the city of Avaza, Turkmenistan. On the first day of the conference, the opening ceremony of the Inter-Parliamentary and Civil Society Forums took place. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, chaired the first session of the Forum, held under the theme “From Vienna to Avaza: Unresolved Challenges, Lessons Learned, and the Way Forward,” and informed participants about the work Azerbaijan has carried out in relevant areas. At the opening ceremony of the Civil Society Forum, Rabab Fatima, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Office of Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, as well as Lok Bahadur Thapa, the newly elected President of the UN Economic and Social Council, delivered speeches and spoke about the important role of civil society institutions in LLDC countries. In the coming days, forums on Global South cooperation, Women Leaders, and other important topics are expected to take place within the framework of the conference.
